During the Renaissance, nuns and monks using
quilling, coiling and shaping of narrow gold-glided paper to replace costly
gold filigree in order to decorate religious objects such as book cover. In 18th
and 19th century, young ladies in England transform quilling to
decorate tea caddies and pieces of furniture.
In 21st century, quilling design and
specialty supplies have definitely caught up. Today, quilling focus on making
decoration in 3-D figures. Quilling also now becomes a way of bringing
personality to handmade cards.
There
is many kind of quilling for example
I started exposing myself to quilling art when I
am 18 years-old. My sister show me a picture of quilling paper decoration
cards, and I start to do some research on it. I search the tutorial of quilling
paper from youtube, web-site and even blog in order to pick up the skills. Due
to the limited material I have, I use color paper cut into paper strip and use
a pin to be quilling needle. I tried to roll and shape the color paper and
successfully create a birthday cards for my piano teacher.
In my opinion, quilling is fun when the paper
strips transform into a picture or wording. Quilling art is a kind of
handicraft that can transform a paper strips into a different shapes of 3-D
decoration. The color of paper strips make the decoration become more artistic,
beautiful and reality. Quilling had become my hobby and I wanted to buy a set
of quilling materials and continue explore myself in this area. But I could not
find it and it is quite expensive to me. Anyway, I still like to do quilling as
it is fun and special.
