Quilling Paper

During the Renaissance, nuns and monks using quilling, coiling and shaping of narrow gold-glided paper to replace costly gold filigree in order to decorate religious objects such as book cover. In 18th and 19th century, young ladies in England transform quilling to decorate tea caddies and pieces of furniture.

In 21st century, quilling design and specialty supplies have definitely caught up. Today, quilling focus on making decoration in 3-D figures. Quilling also now becomes a way of bringing personality to handmade cards.

There is many kind of quilling for example

Quilling materials include quilling paper with 1/8 '', standard width, quilling tool ( needle tool or slotted tool ), ruler, scissors, tweezers, glue ( clear-drying, suitable for paper ), plastic lid ( to use as a glue palette ), T-pin, paper piercing tool, or round toothpick, glass-head straight pins, non-stick work board, cork or styrofoam ( something into which you can stick pins), damp cloth ( to keep your fingers free of glue.

I started exposing myself to quilling art when I am 18 years-old. My sister show me a picture of quilling paper decoration cards, and I start to do some research on it. I search the tutorial of quilling paper from youtube, web-site and even blog in order to pick up the skills. Due to the limited material I have, I use color paper cut into paper strip and use a pin to be quilling needle. I tried to roll and shape the color paper and successfully create a birthday cards for my piano teacher.

In my opinion, quilling is fun when the paper strips transform into a picture or wording. Quilling art is a kind of handicraft that can transform a paper strips into a different shapes of 3-D decoration. The color of paper strips make the decoration become more artistic, beautiful and reality. Quilling had become my hobby and I wanted to buy a set of quilling materials and continue explore myself in this area. But I could not find it and it is quite expensive to me. Anyway, I still like to do quilling as it is fun and special.

In Spirited Away, a girl whose family is moving to another town, finds herself alone in a mysterious town, There are ghosts, gods, and monsters, and she must try to figure out which ones to trust and what to do in order to save her parents. The fairy-tale atmosphere is enhanced by lovely, subtle colors, beautiful hand-drawn characters, and elaborate, decorative computer animated backgrounds.

I watched Spirited Away up to five times. Maybe some of the people will think that is it I'm too boring and nothing to do? Actually ya, when I'm bored, I will play the DVD of Hayao Miyazaki animation to watch. But, Spirited Away is my favorite animate of Miyazaki and that's why I'm able to watch this animation without getting lame. I love the story of Spirited Away because the plot is full with mystery, challenges, mystery, love and care. The colors make the scenes full with imagination, the characteristic of each character makes a deep impress for viewer, the music let the viewer's emotion up and down with the plot. I enjoy this animation a lot.

In my opinion, Spirited Away is not only for children, but enjoyed by all ages. This animation represents new media with digital arts. The tone, value of the color makes this animate with souls. The advancer of the girl is full with challenges and love. the background of each scene is details and full with the feel of mystery. So therefore, this animation is one of the most successful animation by Hayao Miyazaki.
