Doraemon is yellow in color and has a pair of ears?

I'm one of the fans of Doraemon! I went to the Doraemon EXPO in Viva Home, Petaling Jaya with my friends. As a fans, of course I know the story line of Doraemon. So today I wanna share with you guys the truth of Doraemon.

Do you know that, the original Doraemon yellow in color and has a pair of ears? Quite an intriguing fact isn’t it.

Doraemon is a robot-cat, which is trained in Robot School in order to become the best robot-cat to take care of children like a nanny. However, during his manufacturing, an electrical surge occured and caused him a to become a defected robot-cat.  Due to his manufacturing defect, Doraemon was then sent to training class for special robots by his principal. Doraemon is then successfully graduated from Robot School and was bought by Sewashi (Nobita’s great-great-great-grandson).

One day, a mouse bit Doraemon and this caused him lose his ears. His unrequited love, Noramyako cruelly laughed at his perfectly round face. Doraemon sat on the top of a tower, sadly over the lost of his ears, he tried to be resourceful and cheer himself up by drinking a quick and easy dose of “the source of happiness.” However, he accidentally drank “the source of tragedy” instead. He lost control, cried over and over even fell into sea. As a result, Doraemon’s yellow paint faded away, revealing that familiar blue color underneath.

United States Pavilion EXPO 67

Buckminister Fuller one of the famous architect using geometric forms, two and three-dimensional, mathematics and some physic application to build United States Pavilion, EXPO67 in 1967,
Montreal. The United States Pavilion EXPO 67 was build up with steel and Plexiglas geodesic dome with 137' high and 250' diameter. This building was a 3/4 sphere set, floated above the fairgrounds like a beautiful bubble with its acrylic shell sparkled and glow. The internal temperature was control by a complex system of shades. In this building, there is 4 platforms with 7 level, a 37-metre-long escalator. In April 27 to October 29, 1967, 50 Million visitors from all around the world turned up at EXPO 67 and make the EXPO 67 recorded the most successful World's Fair.

Today, the United States Pavilion EXPO 67 turned into a Biosphere, Environment Museum which is a good venue for education, awareness and information for the environmental issues that relate to air, water, climatic changes, responsible consumption and sustainable development. The Biosphere is now also showing permanent and temporary exhibitions, event, function for public.

I found the picture of this building in "The Power of Art" second edition by Richard Lewis and Susan I.Lewis. The spherical shape of the building attract my attention and bring me to do more research on this beautiful building. I was a physic student before, I know that in order to build a stable spherical building is not a easy project. In order to have a stable and safety building, the structure of the building have to base on many aspect for example, concepts, calculations, types of material, and all the other physic theory and practical.

In my opinion, United States Pavilion, EXPO 67 shows the power of art by the spirit of the forms. Buckminister Fuller's building seems perfect and ideal. He use the Principle of art on his building. For example, he use point to link one another by a line, from the line, it become a form, by the repetition of the form, the value and movement of the form produce a sphere. The repetition of the form gives it unity to the building. The movement shown by the curved of geometric forms, like sphere and circle. Besides that, the square form generally imply perfect calm and stability. This is why many of the architects like to use the square form for their building.

The Old Guitarist by Pablo Picasso

"The Old Guitarist" with size 122.9cm x 82.6cm is an oil painting artwork, which painted by Pablo Picasso in 1903. As the picture show above, this painting is showing a man with threadbare clothing, strength less holding his brown color guitar, playing music on the streets of Barcelona. This painting is currently display in Art Institute of Chicago.

"The Old Guitarist" is using monochromatic color scheme with blue, black, grey and brown color. Overall from the paint, we can see that 80% of it was painted with blue color and it's saying that during that time, Pablo Picasso is suffering in his Blue Period due to the death of his dear friend, Carlos Casagemas.

Based on my research on psychology, the color of blue can explain positively by perseverance, devotion, peaceful and calm. Picasso perseveres in his art although he was with a poor standard of living in Paris. He loves his friend, the guitarist who was hopelessly miserable from a failed love affair and committed suicide. Picasso also looks for peace and calm during this horrible moment.

On the other hand, the color of blue can also be explain negatively by emotionally unstable, unforgiving and manipulation. Picasso lost his dear friend, caused emotionally unstable, even showing out the sense of unforgiving towards the death. He was then facing manipulation which lasted from 1901 to 1904. The combination of blue, black, grey and brown melancholy figures lost in contemplation, a deep and significant tragedy.

In 1998, researchers found out that there ia another composition shown in the paint through x-ray. They determine a young mother, a child and a calf. Nowadays, researchers still could not find out the reason why Picasso didn't finish his previous artwork before he paint "The Old Guitarist".

In my opinion, "The Old Guitarist" shows a sense of sadness, depression and loneliness. When I'm finding a painting of Pablo Picasso in order to write a journal for my visual communication assignment, this painting attract me the most with its color, emotion of guitarist and also the brown guitar. The blue color of the painting make me curious about the background of this picture. The title of this painting bring my attention to this painting. Furthermore, after finish my research about this painting, I found out that the story of this painting is meaningful due to a memorize of a dear friend by Pablo Picasso. It's one of the best way for artist to memorize their life and even what had happened around them. Painting is not only an art, but also a sense of memories.

She lives and work between Shanghai and Malaysia. I'm also one of the person who impress by Hong Yi's artwork. I watched her awesome artwork on Youtube too. She likes to use the materials around her to create a beautiful art especially food.

Hong Yi famous artwork which she used coffee cup stains to paint a portrait of Taiwan Super Star Jay Chou. This project was inspired by the opening and closing lines in Jay Chou’s song. The project took about12 hours to finish. “ Coffee is quite a challenging medium to use – too little water and the rings wouldn’t form easily, too much water and the rings would blend into each other, resulting in just a deformed pool of coffee. I had to also wait for the lighter parts too dry up before stamping on the darker rings, or else the rings would not be visible.” Hong Yi said.

Her another awesome artwork is the portrait of China basketball player Yao Ming by a basketball dipped into red paint. The process of this paint was filmed and uploaded onto the internet in January 2012 and have been watched by millions all over the world.

“HP challenged me to do an art project using ONE HP Ink Advantage Cartridge, ONE HP printer, and 1500 sheets of A4 paper. Like my previous art projects, I kept to using ordinary, every objects as my medium. In this case, I chose to use FEATHERS – which became the title of my art project.” Said by Hong Yi

This project was done by scanning a handful of feathers, then arranging them out differently each time. The 1500 sheets of paper are then laid out and taped together, and installed with the design and mechanics like a giant fan, revealing a giant dove that looks like it is flying out from the printer, to inspire everyone to let their creativity soar, especially in situations that seem impossible or too hard.
This project is also made into a 30 second commercial, and will be shown in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and China. Shot in Pudong, Shanghai.

In my opinion, art is without barrier. Art can be in any kind of form with no right and wrong. Art have different point of view from everyone. For me, art is a kind of creativity, is a visual form of satisfaction. Hong Yi create her own artwork in her point of view in art. Her artwork impress a lot of people around the world. Her success bring a positive impact to design industry. Look forward to her new artwork.
